My Stepmother Charged Us for a Vacation We Were Never Allowed to Attend

Posted on July 29, 2026

Every summer, my stepmother, Linda, organized a family vacation at a beach house. She charged each adult $700, claiming the money covered the rental, groceries, and activities.

The strange part was that her own children always got the best rooms and stayed for the entire week, while the rest of us were given excuses.

One year, my invitation was “accidentally” forgotten. Another year, she claimed the house was too crowded. Even so, she still expected me to pay.

When I finally questioned her, my father pulled me aside.

“Don’t you dare make a scene,” he warned. “Linda works hard to organize everything.”

So I stayed calm.

Before the next trip, I contacted the beach-house owner directly. He revealed that Linda had rented the property at a generous family discount but had collected nearly twice the actual cost from everyone.

She was using the extra money to pay for her children’s flights, shopping, and private activities.

On the morning of the trip, I handed every relative an envelope containing the rental invoice, bank records, and a calculation showing how much each person had overpaid.

Linda exploded.

She accused me of ruining the vacation, but everyone demanded refunds.

My father finally saw the truth.

The trip was canceled, and Linda was forced to return the money.

The following summer, we booked a smaller beach house ourselves. Everyone paid equally—and everyone was actually invited.
