That small plastic tag attached to your new car keys is usually a dealership key-tracking fob that was accidentally left on the keyring when you collected your vehicle.
Dealerships use these tags to organize hundreds of keys, link each set to a particular vehicle, and keep records of when employees take or return them.
The tag is generally intended to track keys within the dealership’s inventory system, not your car, daily journeys, or location once you drive away.
So, if you discover one attached to your keys, there’s usually nothing mysterious about it; it simply belongs to the dealership and can be removed.
