6 sons all cut off their long hair to donate it to charity

Posted on October 18, 2026

When you see someone doing something that seems unusual or that you disagree with, take a moment to ask yourself one simple question: is their behavior hurting anyone else?

If the answer is “no,” then it’s probably best to move on and let them live their lives. You don’t get to decide what is right for someone else, especially when you haven’t taken the time to understand the reasons behind their choices.

If you made an effort to ask questions, you might discover that the situation looks completely different from what you first imagined.

Phoebe Kannisto is the mother of six boys: five-year-old triplets, eight-year-old twin boys, and a ten-year-old son. The family lives in Cheektowaga, New York, and until recently, all six of her sons had very long hair.

Hair length and hairstyle are things that don’t harm anyone. They are personal decisions that deserve respect. Whether you like someone’s hairstyle or not is irrelevant, as long as that person is comfortable and happy with it.

How would you feel if someone mocked you because of the way you looked?

Unfortunately, many people seem unable to understand this simple idea. They feel the need to criticize everything, even the hairstyles of a few young boys.

Whenever you see someone doing something you find unusual or disagreeable, pause and ask yourself: is it hurting anybody else?

If the answer is “no,” it’s best to carry on with your own life and allow others to make their own decisions. You have no right to determine what is best for someone else, particularly when you haven’t even tried to understand their reasons.

Taking the time to ask questions could give you an entirely different understanding of the situation.

Phoebe Kannisto has six sons: a set of triplets who are five years old, eight-year-old twin boys, and a ten-year-old boy. They live in Cheektowaga, New York, and until recently, every one of her sons had long hair.

The length and style of someone’s hair have no negative impact on other people. It is a personal choice that everyone should be free to make. Your opinion about another person’s hairstyle should never matter more than their own happiness.

Imagine how hurtful it would be to have others make fun of your appearance.

Still, plenty of people fail to grasp this basic lesson and insist on passing judgment on everything, including the long hair of young boys.

All six brothers experienced bullying while growing their hair. Sadly, the criticism didn’t come only from children their own age. Adults also made unfair judgments and directed cruel remarks at them. Grown-ups, of all people, should know better!

A special reason

What the bullies failed to understand was that the boys had a meaningful reason for growing their hair. A family friend had died of cancer, and some of the boys were close to their friend’s age. The loss deeply affected them, and they wanted to find a way to make a difference.

That was when all six brothers decided to grow their hair long and donate it to Children with Hair Loss, a nonprofit organization. After months of waiting and growing their hair, they finally donated a combined total of 17 feet of hair!

Before judging or bullying someone for something you don’t understand, take a moment to consider the impact of your words and actions. If what they’re doing isn’t hurting anyone, it’s not your place to criticize them!

Please like and share if you believe these six boys are an inspiration!
