Every night at exactly 9:17, Emily pointed toward the basement door.
“There,” she whispered. “Someone is crying.”
Her parents searched the basement countless times. They checked every corner, every box, and every pipe. There was never anyone there. Doctors said Emily had a vivid imagination, but she never changed her story.
One stormy evening, the electricity suddenly went out. The house fell silent except for the sound of rain. Emily pointed at the door again, her face pale.
“It’s louder tonight.”
Her father grabbed a flashlight and slowly opened the basement door. At first, everything seemed normal. Then he heard it—a faint cry, followed by a desperate bark.
The sound led him behind an old wooden shelf that had not been moved in years. Hidden beneath it was a tiny space where a frightened golden puppy had become trapped after falling through a broken floor vent. It had likely been there for days, too weak to bark loudly.
The family carefully rescued the puppy, wrapping it in a warm blanket before rushing it to a veterinarian. The little dog survived and quickly recovered.
As Emily hugged the puppy, she smiled for the first time in weeks.
“I told you someone needed help,” she said softly.
Her father looked at the basement door, then back at his daughter. He couldn’t explain how she knew. Maybe it was coincidence. Maybe it was extraordinary intuition.
