Angela Stribling, a beloved radio personality and pioneering host of several BET shows, has died at 58, her husband announced.
Stribling’s husband, Ken Washington, shared the devastating news in an Instagram post, which was also shared on Angela’s account and at her longtime Washington, D.C., radio station, WHUR 96.3.
It was revealed that she had battled brain cancer for two years.
“It is with a broken heart that I share that my beloved wife, Angela Marie Stribling, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 26, after a courageous two-year battle with brain cancer. Her sister Darlene and I were by her side,” Ken Washington wrote.
His post continued, “Angela leaves behind a legacy of love, joy, kindness, inspiration, and a voice and spirit that will never be forgotten. A celebration of life will be held in Washington, D.C., date and venue to be announced.”
Angela Stribling rose to fame at the Black Entertainment Television (BET) network and through her work with WJZ-TV and WJLA-TV, according to her LinkedIn page. She went on to become a television pioneer, especially on BET.
In her early career, Stribling, also a jazz singer, hosted BET’s entertainment news show, Screen Scene, in the 1990s. She also pioneered the network’s jazz coverage by hosting Jazz Central, among other shows.
At first, however, the Buffalo, New York-born television and radio personality attended the Fashion Institute of Technology. After that, she moved to Washington, D.C., to pursue a career that “involved my voice,” after mentors and friends advised her.
“I’m a jazz singer first. It has always been my passion,” Angela Stribling told Copa Style Magazine. “However, my broadcast career is also such an integral part of who I am. I’m excited every chance I get to perform on stage, share the spotlight on other artists, and talk about it all on radio and television.”
Recently, she hosted her own radio show, Pillow Talk with Angela, and hosted many national awareness campaigns. It was broadcast on WHUR and Sirius XM.
Over the years, Angela Stribling interviewed many notable names, including former President Bill Clinton, Quincy Jones, Janet Jackson, Stevie Wonder, and Sterling K. Brown, among others.
Stribling’s voice was also “heard on many national TV and radio campaigns, including Mercedes-Benz of North America, Folgers Coffee and Allstate Insurance.”
Angela Stribling was also seen in other television productions. For example, in 2020, she appeared on Season 5 of The Real Housewives of Potomac. She also made a cameo as a TV anchor in Eddie Murphy’s 1992 movie The Distinguished Gentleman.
Shared “challenging” words in final birthday post
Despite her health issues, Angela Stribling kept positive until the end. In her final birthday post on October 13, 2025, she shared, “I’m grateful to God for another year of LIFE! Actually, I’m grateful for every single moment!”
She continued, “This past year was the most challenging I’ve experienced in my lifetime! On many levels! But, especially a surprising health challenge! Through the grace of God, I’ve survived it and ready to embrace all that He has in store for me!”
