I came home early one afternoon and heard my husband, Ethan, talking with two coworkers in the living room.
Before walking in, I stopped when I heard him laugh.
“Take a page from my book,” he said. “I married my ugly wife because she handles the house and children. Her parents gave us the house and car, while I take prettier women on vacations. She has no idea.”
The men laughed.
I stood in the hallway, shaking with anger. Ethan hadn’t simply insulted me—he had admitted he had been using and betraying me for years.
Without making a sound, I quietly walked back outside before anyone noticed me.
That night, I searched through our financial records. I found hotel reservations, expensive gifts, and flights booked for several women. Since the house and vehicles had been purchased by my parents and were legally protected, Ethan had no claim to them.
The following evening, I invited our families, his coworkers, and the women whose names appeared in the records.
When Ethan arrived, everyone was already there.
I played the recording from the previous day, then displayed copies of every receipt and message I had found.
His face turned pale.
Finally, I handed him an envelope containing divorce papers, along with notice that all of his belongings had been moved into storage.
“You wanted the good life without me,” I said. “Now you can have life without my home, my money, or my loyalty.”
He begged me to reconsider.
But I had already learned the truth: being alone was far better than being loved only for what I could provide.
