Participants were shown simple drawings of men and women with different heights and asked who they would choose for casual or long-term relationships. The results showed a clear pattern: men often preferred women slightly shorter than average, while women often preferred men slightly taller than average.
Researchers believe these preferences may come from a mix of psychology, social expectations, and cultural ideas about femininity, confidence, protection, and compatibility. The study also found that height seemed to matter more when people imagined long-term relationships rather than casual dating.
