When 14-year-old Jacob lost his mother to cancer, he found comfort in the one thing she left behind — a small rose bush planted in a weathered clay pot on their back porch.

She had given it to him just weeks before passing.
“This will help you remember me,” she told him.
“Every time you see it bloom, know I’m still with you.”

He took care of it every day. Watered it. Spoke to it. Tended to it like it was sacred.

Until his dad destroyed it.

One morning, after an argument about chores and school, his father snapped. In a fit of frustration, he grabbed a hammer — and smashed the pot in front of Jacob.

“I’m tired of you being stuck in the past,” he said.
“That plant isn’t bringing her back.”

Jacob stood frozen.

Neighbors who witnessed the moment rushed over to try saving what they could of the plant — but the damage was done.
